Scholarships
Alpha Iota Alumni and Friends are very interested in encouraging superior academic achievement. To this end two scholarship funds have established and funded to provide annual scholarships to worthy students.
Alpha Iota Educational Foundation
The Alpha Iota Educational Foundation was created in 1991 by Bruce Pennemped AI ’70, and a few other alumni of Alpha Iota Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. It is a 501( c ) 3 private foundation whose purpose is to provide scholarships and grants to worthy students at Indiana University. Since then, it has accepted tax-deductible contributions, which recently topped $180,000, to be used for scholarships and educational grants. Our Chapter has remained in the top of all fraternities in overall GPA performance at IU since their return in 2006 and the scholarships provided by the Foundation have done much to encourage that performance.
The current Board of Directors is:
President: Jeff Townsend ‘79
Secretary: Doug Schenkel ‘90
Treasurer: Ken Daemicke ‘74
Director: Matt Coffman ‘85
The Foundations first grant provided for computer equipment for the Alpha Iota library, which allowed students to access Indiana University’s computer network, thereby enhancing their educational experience. Since then it has provided $1,000 academic scholarships to worthy students and here is the list of scholarship winners:

These scholarships are funded from in investment income on the principle balance of the donations the Foundation has received. Our ability to increase the number of scholarships awarded each year is totally dependent on additional contributions from generous donors. We encourage you to make an annual donation of $25, $50, or $100 and would ask that if you are considering a gift to the Foundation, please send a personal check made out to the Alpha Iota Educational Foundation to:
Mr. Jeff Townsend
Alpha Iota Educational Foundation

Another way to support the Foundation is to make a bequest while you are making your estate plans. A Codicil can be included in your will providing for a planned gift to be made to the Foundation. A suggested amount would be $10,000 or 10% of the value of your estate.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the Foundation, please contact Mr. Townsend at jtownsend@psrb.com or phone him at 317-637-0700..
Thank you for your consideration and we hope you will support our Foundation.

SLIVINSKE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Slivinske Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 and named for Brother Dale Slivinske, Gamma Sigma, Duke University 1968, past Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity, in honor of his service to the National Fraternity. Until 2009, Theta Chi Fraternity undergraduates from all chapters competed annually for these scholarships, which were awarded to undergraduate members of Theta Chi Fraternity recognizing service to the Fraternity and academic achievement. The members of Alpha Iota Chapter who have received these scholarships are:
1992 Tom Vander Luitgaren #1356
2002 Eric M. Negangard #1743
2002 Joshua N. Payne #1742
2006 Ray Vanlanot #1854
2007 Matt Strausburg #1880
In 2009, the purpose for which these scholarships were awarded was changed and the proceeds from this scholarship fund now support the leadership programs sponsored by the National Fraternity by offsetting the cost of undergraduates to attend. These programs are the School of Fraternity Practices, Mid Year Leadership Challenges, and the Deranian Officers Conference. This scholarship fund continues to be administered by the Foundation Chapter Board of Directors.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to this fund, please send a check, made out to the Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and note in the memo section “The Slivinske Fund”, and mail to:
