9th Annual Golf Outing Has Record Attendance

The ninth annual Alpha Iota golf outing was held on July 29th at the Golf Club of Indiana in Zionsville, IN. The steamy (but dry) day brought out a record number of brothers along with a record amount of beverages consumed. There were 82 brothers in attendance with brothers dating back to 1953. We were also happy to have three undergrad members along with two of their fathers playing in this years outing.

We would like to pass on special thanks to our sponsors who with their generosity and the generosity of our brothers made it possible for us to contribute over $1600 to the Alpha Iota Educational Foundation. This year Jim Hurley ‘77 sponsored and drove one of the beverage carts. Bruce Blue ‘79 sponsored our driving range in the name of the fall 1975 Pledge class and again drove the other beverage cart. Steve Green ‘81 sponsored our second beverage cart in honor of Brother Gary Walker ’76 who passed away shortly after last years outing. In a touching moment after dinner, Gary’s brother, Dave addressed the group to let us each know how much the golf outing meant to his brother and how important it was for us to get together to laugh and share fellowship.

As is always the case, the outing produces some great stories and allows us to award some prizes to the brothers. Jim Powell ‘80 won the closest to the pin award. Jason Anderson ‘95 won the longest drive. Dave Long ‘94 won for the longest putt. Prizes for team score were offered for both net and gross scores. Winners of the low gross score went to the team of Matt McGrath ‘96, Jason Anderson ‘95, Rob Stichweh ‘95 and Chris Jagoditz ‘97. Second place gross score went to the team of Steve Skowronski, Joe Skowronski, and Kyle Falk. Winners of low net score (based on blind handicaps) were the team of Bill Smith, (????) Smith, Bill Davisson ‘84 and Dick Davisson ‘53. Second place net score went to the team of John Scott ‘89, Mike (Boog) Powell ‘91, Rick Calkins ‘89 and Tom Bertellotti ‘89.
