On July 30th, 80 men gathered for the 8th annual Alpha Iota Golf Outing. Brothers from 5 decades were present for another perfect weather day at the Golf Club of Indiana that produced many low scores. In addition we had three undergraduates and one of their fathers join the group. We want to say special thanks to our sponsors including Bruce Blue ‘79, Chris Hagenbush ‘74, and Jeff Hamilton ’74 for sponsoring the beverage carts, along with Harry Fox ’80 for sponsoring the driving range. We also sold a record number of mulligans and raffle tickets. All the proceeds from the tournament go to the Alpha Iota Educational Foundation, and with all this great support, we were able to make a record contribution of $2,000.00 to our Scholarship Fund. We also want to recognize Ed Free ‘77, Dave Himebrook ‘77, & Warren Hoffman ’76 for sponsoring our three undergraduate players. The scramble format always produces an exciting tournament and allows us to make several awards. Steve Green ‘81 won closest to the pin and Tom VanderLuitgaren ’92 had the longest drive. We also had a tie for low score and a tiebreaker put the team of Steve Green ‘81, Tom Cooler ‘81, Bart Book ‘82, and Steve Walker ‘81 in the traditional winners jackets, which left second place for the team of Jeff Hamilton 74, Mick Renneisen, Jim Miller ‘79, & Ken Free ‘79. Not to be out classed, the team of Ed Free ‘77, Spencer Romine ‘77, Dick Tetrick ‘77, Rob Romine ‘76 and Nick Johnson ‘07 proudly claimed last place again! We also had the opportunity to recognize a couple of dedicated alumni for outstanding service to the Brotherhood. Kevin McIntosh ’80 received the David E. DeVol Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for his work with our new undergraduate group. Tom Knox ’79 received the Alpha Iota Alumni Outstanding Service Award for his work with organizing the Homecoming barbeque and work parties at the Chapter House. Many things were also on display after the golf including updates on the progress of the Campaign for Alpha Iota, a CD of 160+ pictures of the old and new house, and a DVD of the Colonization Ceremony of our new undergraduate group. Once again Tom Bertellotti ’89 served as tournament chairman and deserves our appreciation for running such a wonderful event. If you are interested in helping with the event, please email us at: thetachi@alumni.indiana.edu. It was another great day of fellowship for the Brotherhood, so mark your calendar for July 29, 2006 for the 9 th Annual and we hope to see you there. Here is a list
